Pianist
Alcyona is a pianist and composer working at the forefront of the London jazz scene. She studied at the Royal Academy of music and has been performing internationally for many years. She is a member of the London Jazz Orchestra, has a co-led duo with saxophonist/flautist Tori Freestone, trio with Paul Clarvis and Stuart Hall, and plays with the John Warren Nonet and Noel Langley’s Edentide ensemble. She has been performing for many years with Anglo/Egyptian singer Natacha Atlas, with whom she has played major European festivals including Jazz a Vienne, the US and Canadian festival circuits, and in North Africa and the Middle East. She has worked extensively in France in recent years, and in Istanbul, playing with many renowned Turkish musicians on a television series for TRT. She accompanies choirs under the direction of Scott Stroman, and has worked with numerous other artists including Yazz Ahmed, Brigitte Beraha, Merit Ariane, Samy Bishai, Ibrahim Maalouf, Zoe Rahman, Jerry Dammer’s Spatial Aka orchestra, Macadi Nahhas and loads more.
She has released four critically acclaimed albums, the most recent ‘Criss Cross’, a duo album with Tori Freestone released on the trans-Atlantic label, Whirlwind Recordings.
As a composer, she studied at the National Film and Television School, composing music for film. She has written and produced music for independent short films, documentaries, animation, silent cinema and won an award for best soundtrack at the Anima Mundi International Festival, Brazil.
